So 24 Hours Le Mans is over and we’ll have to wait a whole year for another brilliant endurance race… or will we? The 24 Hours of Le Mons is a spoof version of the famous race and features endurance races all over America for cars costing less than $500.
So you’re probably wondering what some of these ‘lemons’ look like, well click below to see them in action.
During the race a car is given the award of ‘People’s Curse’, this is for being ‘the biggest jerks of the day’ and is judged by the crowd. The car chosen is then destroyed by whatever means necessary. Below is what happened when someone showed up in a car costing more than $500…
Another award is the ‘Organizers Choice’ which is given to the friendly team who most catch the spirit of the race. A trophy and $500 prize is given.
And of course the winner of the event receives a massive cash prize of… $501

$501? God I love those organisers.
Right, I know what I am doing in America. Endurance racing: http://t.co/Yozc7E3D
I’ve raced in more than a few of them and the competing series ChumpCar (also originally part of the same silly cabal that spawned from the very start of Lemons).
It’s far more fun than you can imagine. There are some real drivers, there are some absolute first timers, and everything and I do mean EVERYTHING in between.
Jay (the organizer) and his crew keep it light, fun, and safe, while the competitors make it AMAZING!
People bring cars you cannot imagine and run them far harder than they ever did new.
The events are endurance events, so you need a team of 4 and will each expect about 4 hours of seat time on a big road course per event (really!) You will run in HEAVY traffic the entire race. The quickest way to imagine that is, think about heavy traffic at 100kmh (60mph) and then tell everyone they’re in the same race with full safety gear. Now imagine it’s on a 2 lane road!
The last event I ran was at Infineon (Napa Valley California, formerly sears point if you play simulator games) there were 170 cars on the long course (Indy turn at the hairpin). That is not a misprint, 170 cars. The closing speeds vary GREATLY so if you think the differences are crazy at the real Le Mans, imagine that, now do it with complete rookies!
Oh and if you think the $501 keeps a win fun, you’re missing the real point. You receive it in Nickels (shiny american change that weighs about 60 pounds). The most inconvenient prize of all!
The real winner though is the “Index of Effluency” for the absolute worst car that did the best. They win the SAME amount as the winner (also in coins).
If you ever really wanted to go racing, while having fun, and not breaking the bank (entirely) come out and race. It’s far too much fun!! (questions,, go ahead and click on me here and shoot me an email)
